We have conducted projects in regulatory compliance, research reports on waste topics, provided professional training and certification services to local authorities, private waste facilities and trade bodies.

NEW PROCESSING STANDARDS

We prepared an application for the European Compost Network to apply to the European Food Safety Authority for two new animal by product processing standards for composting plants across Europe. The aim of the new standards is to allow the majority of composting plants across Europe to comply with the EU Fertiliser Regulations to sell compost abroad.

COMPOST & DIGESTATE RESEARCH REPORT

We worked with Dr Prasad in preparing a research report on proposed compost and digestate quality standards in Ireland. This involved gather data in Ireland, liaising with other bodies in Europe and conducting a literature review. The project was funded by the Irish Government.

ABP APPROVAL PERMITS

Foster Environmental has been successful in ensuring over seven composting and biogas plants got Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) approval to operate under the Animal By Product Regulations. This involved preparing applications, operating procedures, coordinating the validation of plants and liaising with DAFM. We have also been successful in ensuring two plants which were closed by DAFM were reopened.

EVAULATOR OF CIRCULAR ECONOMY FUNDS

Foster Environmental are independent evaluators for a state organisation where applications are assessed for suitability for funding to develop A project in the circular economy which look at preventing, reuse and recycling of waste in Ireland.

COMPOST SITE DEVELOPMENT IN UAE

The project involved working the United Arab Emirates with the client in redeveloping a composting plant. The work entailed sourcing feedstocks, implementing HACCP and SOPs, training staff on the plants and then developing markets for compost.

TRADE BODY MANAGEMENT

As CEO from 2006 to the present, Percy has coordinated and managed the activities of the association, representing the composting and anaerobic digestion industry at Government and European level. We manage all aspect of the Association from administration, lobbying to organising training and conferences.

CERTIFICATION OF COMPOSTABLES

Foster Environmental worked with the composting industry in Ireland to design and implemented a certification scheme for compostable products in Ireland. This involved designing the scheme, piloting the scheme, establishing the scheme and implementing a team to manage the scheme.

TREATMENT OF CONTAMINATED SOIL

Foster Environmental worked with a client in the establishment of a new division in the treatment of contaminated soils. This involved ensuring legal compliance (Transfrontier Shipment Regulations, Marine/ ADR  Regulations) with the transport and treatment of the soils. The work involved working with building developers to source potential sources of contaminated soils and managing client accounts.

PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY INITIATIVE

Foster Environmental managed and coordinated a compliance scheme for waste tyres. This involved liaising with tyre retailers,  collectors and working with Local Authorities.
